Sustainable travel and car parking consultation – your views needed
The NHSScotland technical guidance on sustainable travel and car parking is being updated. We’re seeking your views – the consultation is open until 3pm on 16 January 2025.
What is the guidance being updated?
SHTM 07-03 – Sustainable Travel Planning and Car Parking Management (Draft for Public Consultation) is the NHSScotland technical guidance on sustainable travel and car parking.
Scottish Health Technical Memorandum (SHTM) are documents designed to provide comprehensive advice and guidance across a range of topics – in this case, sustainable travel and car parking.
Additionally, they can be used to develop board-level policy and are often seen as best practice documents.
However, they are not intended to replace or duplicate any international standards, nor any UK Government or Scottish Government legislation which may apply.
This draft updates the original SHTM 07-03 and SHTM 07-04 guidance, and combines the two guidance documents into one. It offers a comprehensive refresh of best practice, guidance and language, and links to national priorities and strategies.
How can I respond to the consultation?
This is a chance to help shape how guidance relating to sustainable travel and car parking management will develop further, particularly if used as a basis for board level policy.
We welcome all feedback from stakeholders across sustainability, estates and facilities, public health and beyond. You can find the online feedback form on the consultation page – please submit any feedback by 3pm on 16 January 2025.
What happens after the consultation closes?
After the consultation period ends, the Climate Change, Sustainability and Environment team within NHSScotland Assure will review all feedback and make any further improvements needed to the guidance. The final draft will then be reviewed by stakeholders and once approved, will be published and shared with boards.
